I'm Bob Ahrens - Trauma Coach

After building and growing what ultimately became a 50-person communication arts and technology agency in Chicago, I answered God's call on my life to enter ministry. That started 15 years of intense discipleship with five different churches. Only then did I feel free to launch a ministry called IssueToAction (along with our church culture management system) in Jacksonville, NC, circa 2019. Working with Dr. Joe Cappar, a set of tools has emerged to help churches support those needing to overcome trauma. The Trauma-Equipped Church is one of six ministry templates offered today. I am coaching individuals, churches, and communities on everything we offer at IssueToAction.

"Spiritually, Bob is a man with solid, conservative, personal Christian convictions, who has a strong desire to live his life consistent with his sense of the leading of the Holy Spirit.

By way of character, he is trustworthy, reliable, timely, considerate, and collaborative.
He is not a “Yes” man, but desires to use his energy to work cooperatively, for the best results of common goals."

- Joe Cappar

"My renewed partnering engagement with Bob has allowed me to see firsthand how his passion, skills, and dedication have matured.

He is an incredibly hardworking and creative evangelist, not just in a spiritual sense, but for any cause or mission he commits to.

His energy and enthusiasm are infectious, driving projects forward with purpose".

- Rick Tucci

"Bob Ahrens is a talented and capable techno-guru who understands the front and back ends of the internet and web-related communication.

His years of experience enable him to see the big picture of strategy and implementation.

He is a man of faith, with a solid commitment to Christ-like character".

My Story

I was born in the late 1950s, about 10 years after World War II. My father, who already had a history of childhood trauma, served in that war. Treating his unresolved trauma wounds with alcohol created an explosive home environment where my life was nothing like the families I learned about in Church. Growing up in an emotionally abusive home seemed normal at the time. As a teenager in the 70s, many families I knew had alcoholic or drug addicted parents. That had a lot to do with the friends I chose. Some were more comfortable than others. When God called me into ministry, I knew it was about Childhood trauma, abuse, and addictions. Fifteen years later, I was certain I was to equip the church for trauma through Missional Ministry and Healing Discipleships (two of our other ministry templates).

The Trauma-Equipped Church Strategy Presentation, Abridged

This is the first presentation that created the idea of a trauma-equipped church. There have been many presentations since, mainly focusing on implementation strategies and rapid growth into areas such as planting mission points, microchurches, churches, and centers.

Three Ministries Are Needed To Build A Trauma-Equipped Church

The easiest ministry to develop is Missional Ministry, requiring the least amount of cultural shift in your church. Healing Discipleship requires both inreach and outreach ministries. Serving the underserved trauma marketplace as a Certified Trauma-Equipped Church requires the most cultural growth.

Why I Do This

Over the years, I discovered a concept I call "healing discipleship." This is a long-term commitment to obedience in Jesus, as we dedicate ourselves to a Christ-like emotional and spiritual healing process. I've done several of these healing discipleships across my life. Now, I help others do the same, starting with online training, then coaching, helping you lead groups at your local church. The public wants the church to rise up to help those in need overcome trauma. Over 15,000 Facebook followers to date agree. Trauma is a spiritual wound first. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Even non-Christian counselors know this about a crushed spirit, as we are triune beings, Body, Mind, and Spirit. I hope you are moved by the Spirit in these initial courses. There will be more as we grow.
